The blogging treachery
29 December, 2006 by blue soup
I have considered moving Blue Soup to an alternative blog provider. I do like WordPress but hate that there is no facility for javascript tracking. Hey, I’m a geek. I can’t help it. Blogger, on the other hand, does allow these add-ons in the footer and sidebar. But Blogger is a nightmare to use (I had a blog on there for a wee while but hated it) and I wouldn’t be able to take my old blog “with me” if you get me? You can’t import blogs from other hosts such as WP.
So, I have a few options:
- Stay put. Tracking doesn’t really matter in the scheme of what I blog for - to entertain myself (and readers if they find themselves entertained) and to release pent up stress. But it’s still interesting knowing a bit about the people that come here. Yeah, WP has a built-in stats gizmo but, lets be honest now, it’s pretty pants. Maybe one day they’ll allow javascript? What are we reckoning to that…?
- Move to Blogger and hate it for leaving part of me behin. But then, it’s only 3 months worth of ramblings. Perhaps a new blog space is in order for 2007?
- Wait it out at WP until Blogger sorts itself out a bit better… It might develop a better interface. I may not hold my breath.
- Go to some other blog provider… any recommendations?
Anyway, I went to M&S and parted with £80. But got back and realised I had forgotten the bloody Totes. So, back to My Family on BBC1 and not doing this magazine.
God I am so bored.
I am almost looking forward to Tuesday morning and this:

What are totes? And also, don’t go to blogger, it’s such a nightmare (ex-blogger user here).
I miss M&S.
Totes - aka Totes Toasties - are kinda slipper sock things. They are socks with a rough bottom: http://www.xs-stock.co.uk/shopimages/products/normal/totes_black.jpg
Oooohhhh! Very cute!
stay stay. i’ve tried 20six, platform 27, blog.com, blogger, vox etc etc and this one is by far the best
Is that Clapham Junction?
Hey Coatman - nope. It’s my local train station. I almost wish it was Clapham. Then I would only be 5 minutes from Waterloo rather than over an hour away and I wouldn’t need to get up at the crack of dawn (indeed before it during these long winter months) to catch a 7.30am train to the rat race.
7.30? Ha. You’re the lucky one. Try 0659
Yeah, you beat me. It’s a competition I am happy to lose though
But if the trains bugger up for too long a period I will have to get the 7am to keep the Boss extra happy (not that he seems to mind me being late really). Then you still beat me but only by the skin of your teeth.
Speaking of commuting/trains. I was lugging my rather large bag around with me yesterday through London Underground on my way to catch my train home. I have to admit I was very fast and constant with wheeling my bag on and off escalators. Maybe I might try and make a training video for others to learn from.
Also you know blogger is wrong. Just so so wrong.
typepad aparently is good. Although I think there is a fee.
I cant see why you would want to leave? wp has no problems with losing servers, its free (apart from upgrading), its easy to use.
Speaking of upgrading, couldnt you just pay how much the single fee is to upgrade and edit your css, maybe then you could stick in whichever javatracker stuff you so desire?
Boy - sadly not everyone is as thoughtful as you (or as adept at travelling with large bags)… make a training video and put it on You Tube. I make home movies about penguins for the amusement of you guys… perhaps you oughta step up to the mark and do it too!
Yeah, I hear only bad things about Blogger (apart from when talking to Station Sup - who seems to hate WordPress).
I am not PAYING for my blog
That’s why I like it so much!
Well Ill try that. Maybe you could link it on your blog under “You there, do this!”
Well worpdress cant please all.
And the css upgrade which lets you edit everything on teh look of your blog and lets you put in as much jumpled jargoon doody dah code in it costs $10. At the currect rubbish $ rate, thats like £5. Its not that much really. Maybe you have a birthday coming up soon
I will happily host your efforts
I will consider the upgrade. Birthday in March. yay. Another year older. And I read somewhere that 24 is the age that young people say “Oh, I feel like an adult now” so I wonder what it will feel like!
Well Im 24 and never thought about that, but seeing as how you have mentioned it, I do feel rather grown up and adult like. But I am on the wrong side of 24 (Im 25 in a months time) Then I am guessing is going to feel really old Yikes.
But thankfully the average age of men in Britain has increased, as a few years back 25 would of been half way through my life. Eeeeeee
