Grandma’s got new dentures
To eat the crust on pizza
Been taken out by her daughter
Because she thought she ought’a
Kids are eating Snickers
Because they’re so delicious
Then there’s sticky fingers
And mother loses her knickers
[Chorus]
Bank holiday comes six times a year
Days of enjoyment to which everyone cheers
Bank holiday comes with six pack a beer
Then it’s back to work A.G.A.I.N.
BBQ is cooking
Sausages and chicken
The patio is buzzing
The neighbours, they are looking
John is down the fun pub
Drinking lots of lager
Girls and boys are on the game
All the high streets look the same
[Chorus]
Back to work A.G.A.I.N.
[chorus]
Bank holiday*
So, today was the second (and last) Bank Holiday Monday in May for another year. And while a lot of people I know spent it just lolling around, some of us have been busy. The Doctor, for example, worked a full day shift at the General. He is now nearly two hours late finishing and this has shunted our Farewell Dinner back to about 9pm. Not that I am surprised, the NHS shambles could keep me moaning for hours. But I won’t.I spent today avoiding cleaning, mostly. The morning was spent in bed, then kinda bumbling around while I waited for Beardy to use my shower, and then heading over to the watersports shop where my cousin is manager for a pick-me-up in the form of new Reef flip flops. They are cool, just how I like them: with a fabric top (and these were hard to find last year, but I am pleased to see that Reef have brought this style back for the coming summer). They’re black with a green strap. Very nice.
I then managed to waste a bit more time over at Beardy’s by cooking us left-over freezer food for lunch: chicken kievs with a couple of hash browns and some fat chips. Totally gorgeous, if very bad for us. After that there were only a couple more bits of procrastination to be had: popping around Little City and taking a few careless snaps for the memory, and then a long bath reading Noonaville (so that I can give it away rather than take it with me).
And then I did my best impression of Venting and cleaned like my life depended on it. I haven’t finished yet, but the bathrooms are both gleaming, as is most of the kitchen (just have to sort the floor, fridge and inside the cupboards out), the entire flat is hoovered and dusted. All that really remains is to bin whatever I don’t want, box up the remaining items, scrub the kitchen floor, oven and grill pan and then leave, I guess. Oh, and finish fixing the hole in the wall, which has been filled and is just waiting for me to sand and paint over.
And that is what Wednesday off work is for.
Hope you all had more chilled days than mine!

Lolling around is what bank holidays are for. Only middle aged people do DIY on Bank Holiday Monday….Oh wait, you had polyfilla out didn’t you? Next you’ll be getting slippers and a shed.
No no no! I did the hole filling a few days ago. I’m just too lazy to finish it off!
I haven’t got any slippers at the moment (I have Totes slipper socks remember!) but my last pair were in the shape of dogs.
There is no space for a shed on the patio shed that is masquerading as a garden at my new house.
So you say but it’s only a matter of time before you find yourself plodding round B&Q on a Sunday with trays of paint and fence panels. Have you kept a stick for stirring paint? I bet you have.
