Ok, I haven’t got the time – nor energy – to really do more than just piss about with The Camera this evening. It is therefore in Green Idiot Mode just to play with. All very confusing. Will need a lesson with Dom. But, in Dummy Mode (ha ha, in joke going on here with Absolutely and Dom), look at Polly:
Trying to get her to sit still was the hardest part. I compromised by allowing her a good nibble of my thumb.

Well, considering it was taken one handed (the other used to entertain subject matter rat), and i am hardly a master photographer given that I only got the bloody camera today, AND that I always get totally overwhelmed by any form of technology and avoid it for a while (yes, yes, I know, I will never learn that way)… it’s not bad.
I think Dom might even be nice about it, all the above considered! (hint HINT)

OK, tut, tut for using green idiot mode, but top marks otherwise. If I can be hyper critical, it’s ever so slightly over exposed. The good news is if you’ve taken the picture in raw mode (you did use raw didn’t you?) you can alter the exposure by about +/- 1 stop using software. You probably want to under expose it by about 1/3rd of a stop, possibly less, to stop the near blown highlights on the finger.
For a piss about shot I’d be very happy with it (definitely a keeper there)
What can you do when you’re trying?

I too hate manuals but for some reason this particular one seems ‘actually’ useful and user-friendly. Kudos to Canon.

There are loads of ducks (or duck-type things) on the pond in SJP.
I didn’t say anything about the flash as I think it was that that gave the great catchlights in the eyes… that and I promised to keep the techy stuff to a minimum
