Well, would you look at that. It’s 2008. Soupy takes up the keyboard again. I was going to write one of those blog round up posts where I go back over the year month-by-month and pull out the big things or the best bits, but I can’t be bothered. Possibly not the most promising start to a blog year
But, hell, I am back, what more do you want from me?!
In brief, 2007 was a year like any other. Was it good or bad? Both, in places. Sometimes it was both simultaneously. Mostly it was the usual cycle of up and down. It’s called life. There were some pretty mammoth happenings for me though. Last year was the year that:
- I was diagnosed with early stage cervical cancer, operated on to remove offending cancerous tissue and biopsy results came back showing clear margins, marking possibly the most stressful and perspective-altering period of my life ever to date.
- I moved to London from Little City and finally cut ties with the student dream.
- Beardy and I finally gave up on our relationship, realising that the idea of being in love and actually being in love are two different things entirely.
- I allowed myself to be treated badly by a number of men (the worst offenders being Beardy, Rocker Boy and Fire Man) while searching for someone to instill a sense of worth that I now realise only I can give myself.
- I was promoted from media monkey to senior media monkey but I continue to waste all my money on stuff I don’t really need or want. Apart from alcohol, which I do need and I do want.
So, it is bye bye to 2007 and hello to 2008. The celebrations passed like any drink-fuelled night might. I drank a bottle of wine and some vodka with friends, was generally flirtatious and passed out.
There is no point asking what 2008 will bring. Probably the same as any year: good times, heartache. It’s just part of the mix. I have ONE key New Year’s resolution, and that is:
Be rad
Being rad is like being fabulous, or being great, being anything you want to be. It’s about just being you and covers anything you could want to achieve or do or stop doing or whatever. We are all rad. Bugger trying to change. We are who we are.
There are some slightly more tenable sub-resolutions (ones that I probably won’t keep, but I would like to):
- No more FM
- No more Beardy
- Train properly for the 10km and complete it in good time
- Never let anyone treat you in a manner you wouldn’t treat someone you care about
So, welcome to 2008. And so the ride continues.
xx

Welcome back Soupy and happy new year
Yes, welcome back and happy new year!
Wooo Hoooo! Happy New Year lady xx
Hello hello! - Welcome back home & Happy New Year!
Welcome back, and happy new year to you. Love that you will continue to be rad in 2008!
Hello again
Following your `sub-resolutions’ paragraph, am I allowed to quote from All About Eve (which, incidentally is on this afternoon on Film 4, and must be watched whilst eating your body weight in all the left over chocolate) :
“Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy night!”
Ahhh, a good first post of the year.
Happy happy happy new year.
Happy new year Soupy!! Glad to have you back.
Yay, you’re back. (and the prize for stating the obvious goes to…) As for being rad I’m not so sure that I can endorse such a trendy name. Not at my age.
Soupster, have a great 08.
Happy New Year
‘Never let anyone treat you in a manner you wouldn’t treat someone you care about ‘
so so true … I might quote you when I can be bothered to do a ‘2007 update’ myself.
I’m glad you’ve decided to kick the stupid boys to the kerb.
All the best
