push back
9 May, 2008 by blue soup
It is looking increasingly likely that I will have to pull out of the BUPA 10,000. I’m going to see how things go between now and the race in two and a bit weeks time, but my health isn’t up to it and I’ve been advised that it would be unwise to take part.
However, I am also registered for the British 10k on 6 July which I am competing in through my place of work. I have spoken to Jo’s Trust about putting my 10km run off until this second race and using that for my fundraising instead of the BUPA 10,000. Does anyone know how this works with Just Giving? Do I just change the cause?
Whatever happens, I will be running 10km and everyone who has donated will get their money’s worth, I promise. But with recent ill health, plus a whole load of other shite that I can’t go in to here, the end of the month is probably not going to be an option.
Do you think people will mind? How does this all work now?

I doubt anybody will mind - your health/well-being is more important in all of this, and at the end of the day the money’s already gone to a good cause, so it doesn’t matter if it’s not this time round…
No idea honey .. you have my money already, do with it what you will and however!
Your health is most important!
*hugs*
It’s still a donation to Jo’s Trust right? thats all that matters
Best thing is to ask Just Giving …… it will be a common problem, and they will know how to deal with it.
Important that you look after yourself.
The money donated has already gone to Jo’s Trust. None of it went through my hands either, all done through the Just Giving website.
When you donate through Just Giving, the money is taken immediately, so often prior to the person completing their “task”. It’s done in good faith that the person will actually do what they said they will.
I fully intend to run 10km, as I promised. It just looks like it would be a sensible idea to pull out of the earlier race, and do the British 10k instead, which gives my body another month to recover.
I have contacted Just Giving, and also spoken to Jo’s. Jo’s are fine with me changing my event. I am still waiting to hear back from Just Giving. I just wanted to run it past people who have sponsored me to see whether anyone would mind the delay.
Hiya Blue
To add my two penceworth I’m not worried about my donation and to be honest would have quite happily have give the money weather you were actually running or not… and most of your donors will probably feel the same.
If they dont (in which case I’d be really suprised) then feel free to give me their names and addresses and I’ll send the boys round!
Run it when you can, I’m with everyone else here, the money was given in good faith to help Joe’s, I’m sure you won’t let us down once you are better able to
D
I don’t mind…and don’t think anyone else will. Take care of you then worry about running! Hugs from Canada.
Soupy, the others are right, just focus on getting well soon!!!
I don’t think anyone will mind. You have to put your health first.
I don’t think people will mind what event that you do (I certainly don’t). Just make sure that you are fighting fit for when you do do the event though
hey - if the money is still going to the same charity I doubt anyone will mind
Yes, the money is still for Jo’s Trust (indeed, it is ALREADY with them!!!)
I have decided to do the BUPA 10,000 but not push my way around it. This will mean a fair amount of walking, some jogging, maybe breaking into a run from time to time.
I am also going to be doing the British 10k - running this for Jo’s but through work and as part of the Project HOPE team.
So, two 10km events for the same money…
two 10k events - hmm doesn’t that mean we should double our donations?
