lunch - and rats
21 May, 2008 by blue soup
Today I went for lunch with Dan and it was a very pleasant affair.
Dan mentioned that I haven’t spoken of my wee rat babies much of late, and an update is required. Trawling back through my blog, he is absolutely right.
Pols and Sybs, you will be relieved to hear, have not popped their clogs or anything so dramatic - trust me, you would be among the first to know.
No sir-ee, they continue to
- eat duvet covers
- hurtle from one end of the bed to the other at lightening speed
- play “Houdini-had-nothing-on-me-ha-ha-bet-you-can’t-find-me-now!!”
- finish off my dinner
- sit on my shoulders
- watch TV with me
- try and get into my handbag for a daytrip to the office in the morning (er, noooooo, naughty rats, out you get)
- explore the bathroom floor while I am in the bath
- refuse to come out from under the bed
- refuse to come out from under the chest of drawers
- refuse to come out from the gap between their cage and the wardrobe
- refuse to go to sleep
- steal Wotsits from my hand
- do tricks for rat-chocs
- snooze upside down with their legs in the air
- do ratty acrobatics on the bed
- do ratty acrobatics from the bars of the cage
- sit on the document I am working on (rather than ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE BED)
- nibble my ankles
- bite my toes
- lick my fingers
- lick my cheeks
- try and climb in my mouth (don’t ask)
- make funny chattering noises when happy
- attack the laptop keyboard (although have not managed to swipe any more letters, I am still Z down)
- play fight
- really fight
- cuddle
- and a whole bunch of other amusing rat-related stuff
I haven’t had much chance to take any pictures of them lately, so feast your eyes on this gorgeous little baby rat… AWWWW!

Oh. My. God that is so cute!!
That rat has toooo human like hands!
Sweet though
Your rats make me smile; the “things they do” reminds me of when I had rats (and other small rodent-y pets)
hope you’re having a good day there
M
omg the one about them having day trips to the office made me nearly wee with laughter!
I’ve been meaning to ask you a ratty related question. How do you keep their nails trim. For some reason my latest rats have developed really long claws. All the other ones I’ve had used to break them or wear them down but this lot don’t. Someone suggested biting them but their little hands are so tiny I’d be scared of hurting them.
Mr Frog, so far my girlies seem ok claw wise, and they are a year and a half old now. I wouldn’t bite their claws for them though! My two have this wooden climby thing that I think keeps theirs trim. If their claws are getting long, take them to the vet! They can clip them, and ok it costs money, but they’re your ratty babies!!
I REALLY missed my girls this weekend
